Street Banners can be hung on the Railroad Bridge on Church Hill Road

Banners may be hung for most non-profit matters and events, announcements of public events, town matters, and matters of non-political public interest. Political banners are not permitted.

Banners may be hung for town and non-profit events or notices. Political banners are not permitted. The maximum size banner is 6 by 14 feet. Less than 4 X 6 feet are difficult to see. We only have approval to hang banners on the east (Sandy Hook) side of the bridge. Public Works will hang them and take them down. There is no fee. Approval is for 14 days or less depending on the demand.

Jim Gaston is the appointed Borough officer who approves the hanging of the banners. Contact is made by email;  okjt@aol.com. In the email request, one should include the name of the organization/entity requesting, the function and a general description of the banner, size, and date of the function (if applicable). Please include the period of time in which you would like the banner hung. He will respond to the request shortly.

Arlene Miles at Public Works arlene.miles@newtown-ct.gov coordinates the hanging of the approved banners.  Upon approval, drop the banner off at the Public Works office (4 Turkey Hill Road) a couple days before it is to be hung. Please be sure to pick it up within a few days of it coming down.
