Borough of Newtown Budget Approved
Borough residents gathered in the Edmond Town Hall gymnasium on May 13 and approved the Borough of Newtown’s budget for 2025-26. The vote to approve the $299,620 budget was 19-1. The new mill rate of 0.83 will take effect July 1, 2025, the beginning of the Borough’s fiscal year. Read MoreMembers of the Newtown Lions Club joined volunteer firefighters from Newtown Hook & Ladder and Borough of Newtown representatives to raise the Summer Flag on the town’s flagpole on Saturday morning, May 10. The large 20 X 30 foot flag is donated by the Newtown Lions Club. It flies on the flagpole between May and early November, when a smaller 12 X 18 flag is raised. Newtown Hardware donates two winter flags to the Borough every year.

The Borough of Newtown will hold its annual Budget Meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gym at Edmond Town Hall, for the purpose of voting on the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. All residents of the Borough are encouraged to attend. Please bring identification with you to be eligible to vote. The logo will be part of a brand identity system for the Borough, to be utilized on all marketing communications moving forward. Working closely with local branding and design studio, Map Agency, Burgess Maureen Crick Owen spearheaded the project. Settled from Stratford and incorporated in 1711, Newtown was a stronghold of Tory sentiment during the early Revolutionary War. French General Rochambeau and hist troops encamped here in 1781 on their way to the siege of Yorktown, Virginia, which ended the Revolution. An important crossroads throughout its early history, the viallage of Hawleyville briefly emerged as a railroad center and the town’s population grew to over 4,000 circa 1881. Read MoreOn Tuesday, September 10, the Board of Burgesses discussed, among other things, a new branding project for the Borough of Newtown. Beforehand, Board and staff members took portraits and group photographs for the website, which is currently in development. The website will act as a resource for both current and prospective residents and businesses. Local branding company, Map Agency, presented three concepts for the borough’s logo. Burgess Maureen Crick Owen worked closely with Map Agency, and there was a great conversation about what the logo represents.
