A Brief History
The CT State General Assembly granted a petition of Newtown residents to be incorporated as a Borough in May, 1824. Borough residents remained citizens of the town of Newtown, but benefited from their own special services, which went beyond those that the town supplied to all of its citizens. Today, the Borough continues to provide numerous benefits for the Village, and helps to maintain the historic nature of our village.
