Board of Burgesses

The Borough of Newtown is governed by a Board of Warden and six Burgesses elected in May of every odd numbered year. The duties of the Board of Burgesses include preparation of the budget, and changes in borough ordinances.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The ZBA considers requests for variances to the zoning regulations due to hardship. The ZBA also has the power to correct a decision of the Zoning Enforcement Officer when the board feels the Zoning Officer has made an error.

Zoning Commission

The Commission is responsible for drafting and adopting the zoning regulations of the Borough of Newtown. The Commission is also responsible for reviewing and deciding on any permits (e.g. Special Permits, Site Plans) required by the zoning regulations.

Historic District

The Historic Commission considers applications for work on properties that are located in the Borough Historic District. They encourage preservation, restoration and rehabilitation that respects the village’s historical features.

Board of Assessment Appeals

Under the law, anyone aggrieved by a property tax assessor's actions on real property can appeal those actions to the Borough’s Board of Assessment Appeals. The aggrieved person must do so in writing on or before February 20.
